Like every New Year’s Eve reveler-turned-New Year’s Day resolutionist, Hollywood likes to look at the best of the previous year when turning over to the newest calendar. For fans of movies, TV, and celebrity news, that period of reflection is awards season, a time when all the stars come out to shine and recognize the best and brightest.
With the arrival of the Oscars, the Grammys, and more on the Hollywood stage (not to mention “the little people” – critics’ and viewer awards from every city, group, and genre imaginable), media coverage makes the last few months of winter the entertainment industry's hottest season. Yahoo! Contributor Network provides comprehensive original coverage of the awards circuit, including who’s who and wearing whom on the red carpet; which small screen stars are worthy of awards; and how films fared in and out of theaters with critics, A-list peers, and the people.
Entertainment News
Yahoo! Contributor Network for omg! writers kept their fingers on the celebrity pulse at the SAG Awards and the Golden Globes, dishing on the fashion, the faux paus, and everything in between!
At the Golden Globe Awards, celebrity-watchers clamored for details about the night’s fashion. Kim Jacobs Walker penned an awesome piece on the sizzles and fizzles at the star-studded event. In the meantime, Jolie du Pre kept us up-to-date on the Twitterverse with her collection of Twitpics and Tweets from the night’s festivities. But after the Globes were handed out, and Ricky Gervais’ last joke was told, the party definitely wasn’t over. Celebs headed to the after parties and Lauren Romano talks about what the celebs were up to!
At the SAG Awards, there was plenty more A-list fun to be had. E! host Giuliana Rancic had a ball (pun intended!) on the red carpet at the swanky awards show, which she captured with this piece on the SAG Awards’ Funniest Moments. The Awards show also featured several amazing speeches sure to go down in SAG history. But, like all awards shows, the fashion was the real main event. Both Kyra Lennon and Megan Morris had something to say about the threads that made their way down the red carpet!

TV
From ravishing gowns to redundant honors, TV fans were understandably left starry-eyed and scratching their heads after the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards presented by TBS and TNT on January 29. The mixed reactions stem from a mixed bag of high points, low points, and "What’s the point when the same actors win over and over?!"
“The Simpsons” enthusiast Timothy Sexton couldn’t help but get animated over Alec Baldwin’s umpteenth win for “30 Rock.” He even has a unique and alphabetical theory as to why Baldwin keeps snagging the coveted SAG Actor trophy. TV fan extraordinaire Tucker Cummings also weighs in on one of the night’s other repeat victors, Steve Buscemi, who edged out Bryan Cranston’s edgy performance on “Breaking Bad” for the second year in a row.
Clearly, there was plenty to debate, but there was also plenty to celebrate! Jake Guerra gives us a quick rundown on some of the best moments of the night – from the “Modern Family” cast’s acceptance speech to the “Dallas” blast from the past. Elizabeth Periale highlights the many charming moments of the night, from Betty White’s acceptance speech to Mary Tyler Moore receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award – a much-needed reminder of a true TV star’s comedic talents. Drew Taylor eloquently weighs in on how Mary Tyler Moore puts a lot of today’s female comedians in check.
But really, that’s enough about awards, right? How about the fashion?! From Lauren Romano discussing how the “Glee” ladies struck all the right and wrong wardrobe chords at once, to Lisa Zadok sharing her thoughts on how “The Big Bang Theory” cast stole the show without taking home any awards, one thing is clear: We couldn’t take our eyes off these bright TV stars.

Movies
Looking at the past, present, and future, Yahoo! Contributor Network content on Yahoo! Movies ranged from crystal ball to historical account to present-tense impression. Though stars were in the spotlight, contributors never lost sight of the movies or of the cast and crew who made them. The SAG Awards proved a big hit with contributors, as did the announcement of Oscar nominations and the seemingly endless road to the 84th Academy Awards itself.
Social networking whiz Mary A. Reed took to her computer during the SAG Awards, tracking who was tweeting what during the ceremony and covering everything from presenters to awards fatigue to union merges with wit and aplomb. Speaking of unions, in anticipation of the ceremony, Timothy Sexton traced some of the moments longtime members of the Screen Actors Guild might not be proud of, including career highlights from Hollywood-to-Washington, D.C., heavy hitters Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston. Regardless of the skeletons in the closet, some contributors were just happy to see SAG moving forward: Steven Bryan commended Hollywood’s actors and actresses for awarding the women of “The Help,” a move he says could mean that “the whole celluloid ceiling shatters for good” in the coming year.
The end of the SAG Awards definitely doesn’t mean the end to awards season. The Oscar nominations announcement only got the month-long party started, with contributors weighing in on the nominees and what to expect. Greg Brian was puzzled by the announcement’s lack of fanfare and early morning time slot, pondering whether the event deserved a primetime spotlight akin to the Grammy nominees. Colorado-based contributor Jason Cangialosi spotlighted a local filmmaker enjoying his second Oscar nomination in the Best Documentary Short category for tackling the serious subject of acid attacks on Pakistani women and showcasing a doctor attempting to restore victims’ faces. Fittingly for a writer passionate about movies, Lauren Barbato delved into the Best Original Screenplay category, looking at the nominees and their chances of winning, praising the wit and originality of some of the scripts while charting the faded glory of others.

Thanks, and before I hear from the Grammar Nazis, my job is to post tweets and Twitpics EXACTLY as the stars write them. LOL
Red carpet fashion fizzles are one of my guilty pleasures.
