What is the Yahoo! Contributor Network?

The Yahoo! Contributor Network is a platform that allows you to share your voice and expertise with Yahoo!’s online audience of more than 600 million monthly online visitors. Once you register as a contributor, you can start submitting articles, videos, audio and images – on any topic you choose – and claim assignments to publish on Yahoo! sites like Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports, Yahoo! Finance, omg! from Yahoo!, Shine from Yahoo! and Yahoo! Voices. Better yet, you’ll earn money every time you publish, and your earnings are limitless with the Yahoo! What is Yahoo! Voices?

Yahoo! Voices (www.associatedcontent.com) is the official digital library of the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Much of the content you submit through the Yahoo! Contributor Network will be published on Voices, where it will earn money based on the amount of traffic it receives. Voices was an independent publishing platform for five years before being acquired by Yahoo! in 2010. In November 2010, the Voices publishing platform became the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Voices’s publishing tools are now located at www.contributor.yahoo.com.

If you’re already an Voices contributor, you can sign in to the Yahoo! Contributor Network using your existing username and password. Read below for more information about this transition.

How do I become a Yahoo! contributor?

It’s easy! Complete a simple registration form and you’re ready to get started. We recommend immediately filling your contributor profile with information about your experience, interests and areas of expertise. This will help us offer you the most relevant assignments based on your interests and qualifications.

Can I sign in to the Yahoo! Contributor Network with my existing Yahoo! ID?

Not yet, but soon! If you’re not already signed up for Voices or the Yahoo! Contributor Network, please create a new account.

How do I publish on the Yahoo! Contributor Network?

After you create your account (or sign in to your existing Voices account), you can start submitting content right away. Click “Submit” at the top of any page to submit an article, video, audio clip or image slideshow on a topic of your choice. You can also claim specific assignments from our Assignment Desk (located on your account page).

When I submit content to the Yahoo! Contributor Network, how will I know where it will be published?

All content you submit to the Yahoo! Contributor Network may be published on one or more of the following Yahoo! sites: Voices from Yahoo!, omg! from Yahoo!, Shine from Yahoo!, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Local, Yahoo! Movies, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! TV. Eventually, this list will be expanded to include other Yahoo! sites.

Additionally, you may receive opportunities to claim specific assignments allowing you to publish content on other Yahoo! sites, or even on partner sites outside of the Yahoo! network.

As a new contributor, most of your submissions will be published on Yahoo! Voices – the official digital library of the Yahoo! Contributor Network. As you publish content you publish in the areas of interest and expertise, you’ll receive more and more opportunities to publish on other Yahoo! websites.

How do I earn money on the Yahoo! Contributor Network?

You can earn money in three ways:

  1. Performance Payments: Earn money based on the amount of traffic your content receives on select Yahoo! sites, including Voices, omg!, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Movies, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Sports, and Yahoo! TV.
  2. Up-front Payments: Certain types of content can be considered for an Up-front Payment in addition to Performance Payments.
  3. Assignments: Many of the assignments you claim from our Assignment Desk come with an up-front payment attached. If your submission meets all the requirements, you’ll earn that amount as soon as it has been accepted. You’ll also get Performance Payments if the piece gets published on one of the websites where performance pay is enabled (see above).

Information for Voices Contributors

I’m an existing Voices Contributor. How do I sign in to the Yahoo! Contributor Network?

You can sign in to the Yahoo! Contributor Network instantly with your existing Yahoo! Voices username and password.

How do I access my Voices profile and content?

Your profile, content queue and all of our publishing tools have been moved over to the Yahoo! Contributor Network. When you sign in, you’ll find that everything works just like you’re used to. The only things that have changed are the name and color scheme. Plus, we’ve integrated content and page view information from other Yahoo! sites onto your profile, content queue and account dashboard!

What will happen with AssociatedContent.com?

Yahoo! Voices remains as the official digital library of the Yahoo! Contributor Network. The majority of your submissions to the Yahoo! Contributor Network will continue to appear on Voices, and you’ll earn money for that content in the same way you always have. As time goes on, you’ll find more and more opportunities to publish to other Yahoo! sites.

How is the Yahoo! Contributor Network different from the Voices publishing platform?

For the most part, everything’s the same – only with a new name and color scheme. You’ll find all the same publishing, promotion and community tools you’ve always used. The biggest changes you’ll find:

  • From now on, your profile will list all of the content you publish across the Yahoo! network of websites – not just Voices.
  • You will start earning Performance Payments on multiple Yahoo! sites! Read more about the details and rates below.
  • All of your content may live on more than one Yahoo! site, and you’ll earn Performance Payments in each location.
  • Your Account page and content queue will now reflect the content and page views from all Yahoo! sites that have enabled Performance Payments. Simply use one of the drop down menus to toggle between the different Yahoo! websites you’ve published on.

Will I start earning Performance Payments on the content I publish to Yahoo! sites other than Voices?

Yes! Our new Performance Payments program lets you earn throughout the Yahoo! network. The performance rates vary from site to site, and will shift over time. Click here to see the list of sites are currently offering Performance Payments, along with current rates.

Important note: This program is in Beta, and is subject to change as outlined in our Payment Policies. Because this new technology is being applied across many websites, we will not necessarily have complete data on all content published to each site right out of the gate. We will make every attempt to fill in any gaps quickly, although we cannot process payments in instances where the performance data does not exist.

Are all Yahoo! sites a part of new Performance Payment program?

For now, Performance Payments only apply to the sites listed here. As time goes on, we will introduce Performance Payments to more Yahoo! websites!

My content was published on Yahoo! sites before the launch of the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Will those be included on my profile? Will I start earning additional revenue on those pieces?

The articles published to Yahoo! sites during our testing and integration period were put in place before we finished developing the technology that now allows us to sync page view and content information across our platform. Therefore, some of these early pieces will not appear on your profile, nor earn Performance Payments.

However, our team has managed to retroactively apply our new technology to some of the pieces published to these sites during the integration period. In these limited cases, your preexisting content will appear on your profile and generate Performance Payments moving forward. As an added thank you to the contributors who helped us brave this new frontier, we will also retroactively process Performance Payments for all the pre-launch content that we have page view data for. Please note that this does not include all of the content before the launch of the Yahoo! Contributor Network – only to those pieces for which full data is available.

Will my content be published on more than one Yahoo! site? Is this the same as “distribution”?

All of the content you publish to the Yahoo! Contributor Network, including all of your content currently on Yahoo! Voices, may be published to more than one of the Yahoo! sites where Performance Payments are enabled. You will still have the ability to edit and remove Display-Only content any time you choose, regardless of where it’s published.

Distribution policies and payments only apply to content that is being republished to partner sites or Yahoo! sites without Performance Payments. In those cases, contributors will receive a flat distribution bonus upon publication. Content that has been opted-out of distribution by the contributor will not be republished to sites that are outside of the Yahoo! network or do not have Performance Payments enabled.

Which parts of the Yahoo! Contributor platform apply only to the Voices library?

  • The Clout system only applies to your views and Performance Payments on Voices. See our Earning Money page for more information.
  • The Featured Contributor program is now the Yahoo! Voices Featured Contributor program. See our Featured Contributor page for more information.
  • Past awards badges ("Best of AC Awards" and "People’s Media Awards") only apply to work published on Voices. All other badges apply across the Yahoo! Contributor Network.

Will I have to re-verify my Voices account?

Nope. Your verification carries through to the Yahoo! Contributor Network.
