Jane Pulling

Jane Pulling is a South Carolinian. She grew up in a small town in the Low Country and after moving several places for marriage and work, she retired in 2006 to another small town about 20 miles away from where she was raised. She is a retired educator with 38 years of experience as a teacher, asst. principal, principal, asst. superintendent, and superintendent. Her bachelors and masters degrees are from the University of Alabama and her doctorate is from the University of Georgia.
She is the recipient of several awards and recognitions including: Reading Teacher of the Year, Reading Leadership Award, and President of the State Asst. Supt.'s Association. She is a member of several professional associations including Phi Delta Kappa, American Association of Curriculum Development, and South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Her professional interests and publications center around the following topics: educating children of poverty, closing the achievement gap, best practices in the teaching of reading and writing, grant writing, and strategic planning. She consults with underperforming schools to raise student achievement through data analysis, collaborative planning, and professional development.
Married to Verne Pulling for 36 years, she is the mother of five grown children and 6 handsome grandsons.
Jane is very active in her church and volunteers in the community with a local elementary school, the guardian ad litem program, master gardeners, hospice, the League of Women Voters, the local food bank, and the Democratic Party.
Her hobbies and interests include reading, cooking, gardening, and travel. She has been a member of the Laissez Faire book club for 15 years.
