Dr. Derrin Smith
His recent book "Humanitarians in Hostile Territory: Expeditionary Diplomacy and Aid Outside the Green Zone" (Left Coast Press, 2010 co-authored with Dr. Peter Van Arsdale) draws heavily on his own experiences working in Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon as an expert in political-military affairs and as a development economist. Dr. Smith is featured in Paramount Studios' interview "Spies Among Us" on the Tom Cruise "Mission Impossible I & II Special Collector's Edition DVD" and is a Life Member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO). Dr. Smith has been a U.S. Marine, special intelligence operations expert, senior systems engineer, diplomat and corporate executive. He is currently on temporary assignment in the Washington, D.C. area where he is also a member of the National Press Club.
