Coach Comeback - P. James Holland

Starting with my last 6 months of high school which was spent putting on my best shirt and tie, cleanest shoes and determined winning attitude and applying at every and any possible job I could. I was lucky enough to get what my friends and family called the Dream Job ... Hired with AT&T (at the time was SBC, the largest telecom company in the us). I started out at $6.25 an hour on a temporary status with no benefits in the mail room and quickly worked my way up to $15 an hour and into an Outside Plant Technician or Lineman. More affectionately referred to as simply, Poleclimber. 10 years later and $29.84 an hour with a class A licence and enough bruises, cuts, scrapes and near miss stories to write a book about I decided I wanted a change. Dont get me wrong. I still say it was the best job I have ever had. You get to travel, if your on the right crew, drive the big toys and do even bigger damage on those emergency call-out due to extreme weather or most common car accidents that knock poles down at 5pm with lines crossing the town busiest intersection. I have just always had a sense for adventure. Now that everything is going digital and to fiber optics, the job was getting easier and my bruises were getting less frequent. That s how it acquired its Dream Job status. . . . Not for me. When the challenge is gone I am no longer being stretch to grow. That is when I left.

That is when all the real fun started. I have spent the last 3 years without a job, traveling the world and freelancing in each town I landed in. I have faced some of my biggest fears and overcome them.

I have had an amazing journey these last few years and it has been quite transformational. I have learned so much. I have had some extensively extreme high s and some wonder-how-I m-still-here lows.
