Sandra Gay
Sandra Darlene Meriwether Gay was born in Indianapolis,Indiana to a dentist and his wife. She has an identical twin sister,Norma Christine. She has been called by her middle name, Darlene, since the third grade.
She attended Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana,then transferred to Knoxville College, located in Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in journalism. After graduation ,she returned to Indianapolis, and began teaching in the Indianapolis Public School System. She married her college sweetheart, and relocated to Greenbelt, Maryland, where she began teaching in the District of Columbia Public School System. Mrs. Gay did graduate work at DC Teachers' College, now the University of the District of Columbia, and later at Florida International University in Miami.
In 1973, she and her husband relocated to his Miami ,where he began the practice of dentistry. After a number of years, she returned to teaching in the Miami-Dade County Public School System. She is a retired educator.
She and her husband are the parents of three adult children, and five grandchildren.
She enjoys world travel, writing,convention and event planning, collecting black art, collecting elephants, photography, and reading.
