Matthew A. Kopetski - Kopetski & Associates
Matthew uses his unique combination of legal and political expertise to assist businesses and industry bodies maximize their ability to shape and comply with EU law and policy. He is a specialist in competition, international trade and procurement law and has advised corporations active in a range of economic sectors including branded retail products, transport and agriculture. In addition to his daily interactions with the European Commission, Parliament and Council, he often works with the U.S. Mission to the European Union, other embassies in Europe and Members of the U.S. Congress.
Matthew has been practicing EU law and government relations since 2007, first working for large law firms and then with an independent government relations group. He has organised and managed multi-annual government relations projects for a variety of businesses. He played a major role in securing regulatory approval for Nike’s acquisition of Umbro and has been involved in a number of other merger control proceedings, most recently the unsuccessful attempt of Olympic Airlines to acquire Aegean. He also helped Meat & Livestock Australia secure an early ratification of a trade agreement negotiated under GATT XXIV:6 between the EU and Australia.
Matthew is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Brussels. He is also lawyer for the U.S. Army Reserves holding the rank of Major. He frequently lectures on topics related to the application of international law to military operations.
