Brenda Scottsdale began writing professionally in 1997, with work published in "The Journal of Criminal Justice and Behavior." She holds a Master of Science from Kansas State University, and a Six Sigma master black belt from Villanova State University.

At 14, Scottsdale wrote a paper speculating on causes of bovine cancer, winning the Canadian National Science Fair.
