Donna Hicks
Donna Hicks has had a passion for writing for more than 20 years. She has won several writing contests and awards. Most recently, she entered the prestigious World Population Approaches 7 Billion Contest sponsored by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Population Services International (PSI) and Helium. In the initial winning phase, after a 1st place tie-breaker, Donna was awarded second place by Helium. A panel of Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and PSI judges convened to decide the Best Article Overall from 182 articles written to the 4 assigned titles, submitted by 100 writers from the USA and as far away as India, the Phillipines and Africa. Donna had the prestigious honor of one of her 4 articles being selected Best Article Overall. It was published in the PSI quarterly print magazine Impact in September, 2011. Impact is distributed in more than 60 countries.
She was selected as winner of the 2008 Paul Laurence Dunbar Memorial Poetry Contest, with more than 1000 entries having been submitted.
While enjoying writing in any category, she particularly enjoys writing on global issues, criminal justice, national and international politics, mental health and medical issues as well as sports.
Donna also enjoys collecting, selling and writing about antiques and entering sweepstakes and contests.
