Donna Hicks has been writing for more than 20 years. She is honored to have won several writing contests and awards. In the 2012 Citizen Journalism Contest, 'Haiti's Earthquake: Two Years After,' sponsored by Global Post, Universal Giving and Helium, Donna was awarded 3rd place. In 2011, she entered the prestigious 'World Population Approaches 7 Billion' Contest sponsored by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Population Services International (PSI) and Helium. A panel of Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and PSI judges convened to decide the Best Article Overall from 182 articles written to the 4 assigned titles, submitted by 100 writers from around the globe. Donna had the prestigious honor of one of her articles being selected Best Article Overall. It was published in the PSI quarterly print magazine 'Impact' in September, 2011. Impact is distributed in over 60 countries.
She was selected winner of the 2008 Paul Laurence Dunbar Memorial Poetry Contest, from more than 1000 entries. She regularly wins many smaller writing contests.
While enjoying writing in any category, she particularly enjoys writing on global issues, criminal justice, local, national and international news, medical and mental health, national and international politics and history.
Donna writes local news as a Columbus Crime Examiner for Examiner and writes to many topics at Helium, where she is Channel Manager for U.S. Law and Justice, as well as for Political issues and for Celebrations & Holidays (other).
Donna also enjoys collecting, selling and writing about antiques and entering sweepstakes and contests.
