Travis May
Travis May is a teacher, writer, and editor who currently resides in St. Petersburg, FL. He has a master's degree in English Education from the University of South Florida. Currently, he teaches English as a second language to foreign students and businesspeople at a language center in Tampa. He also teaches classes on mindfulness/awareness meditation and various topics related to Shambhala Buddhism. As part of his role with the Shambhala Meditation Group of St. Petersburg, Travis also has spent several years as the communications liaison where he composed and sent out weekly newsletters and program announcements to an extensive mailing list, as well as created pamphlets, flyers, and advertisements that were displayed at local businesses or in local publications. Travis also is the acting webmaster for this organization's website. In this role he creates content, updates relevant information, and creates program registration pages on an ongoing basis using Adobe Contribute and proprietary database software. In the past he has been contracted to edit screenplays, web content, and currently volunteers as an editor for the Shambhala Times website (shambhalatimes.org). In the past he has also created technical procedural manuals (for the eCampus Helpdesk at AT&T) and participated on a philanthropy board where he helped create and evaluate RFPs, NOFOs, and multi-media ethnographic research. His work towards earning a bachelor's degree in psychology helped him to acquire the skill of creating well-written scientific journal style articles and carrying out scientific research experiments. Travis also has leadership experience in a corporate environment having from 5 to 20 direct reports, experience leading meetings, facilitating discussions, training, and ensuring production goals were met.
