Vincent Bernard
First and foremost, I am a talented writer. Secondly, I'm a reader. Third...I'm black. Fourth, I'm handsome and sexy. Writing and reading is basically my life. I string words together in my mind as I'm walking the streets, driving my car, or sitting in the subway, bopping to my music, avoiding the eyes of NYC strap-hangers. Any writer, or wizard of words, knows exactly what I mean. What it is to constantly have a dialogue in your head. To constantly play interesting pieces of past conversations over in your mind and wonder how would it look and sound when written on paper.
I read anything I can get my hands. My reading interest is as vast as the damn ocean, as you can see from glancing at my favorites books. Toni Morrison is my favorite author. She, to me, is what I'd like to consider the goddess of literary fiction. Although I greatly admire her work, I can read things as deep as Ms. Morrison or Tolstoy, flip it to the Horror genre in the likes of Stephen King or my beloved Anne RIce, before she decided to fictionalize the life of Christ...as if we need more coverage on his story. I'm black, as politically correct people like to say, African American. My race, or skin tone, depending on who you talk to, is an influence to my work. I come from a family of very colorful individuals from various pasts and walks of life. So it made growing up in my world quite an interesting place.
Their past is what interest me the most. THe shoes they've walked in before they became my beloved family members. The lives of our Mothers, Fathers, Aunts, Uncles, and even Siblings, can be astonishing at times.
I'm also a movie junkie. My twin brother and I make an appearance damn near every week. It's almost a ritual that's hardly broken. We toke back on some chiba and watch the movies with a finely tuned eye and elevated imaginations, granting more pleasure to film watching as a whole.
My film taste is just as vast my book and musical interest. I love classics like On the W
