Chris Wilder

After hitchhiking around Europe at the age of twenty-one, and never losing his love of travel, the author put his 'back to the wheel' and spent several years in the corporate world. Throughout his engineering work with Bechtel, the Lawrence National Labs, Intel, Applied Materials, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), the author’s voracious outside reading would, more than once, exceed his corporate reading.

Pilots talk about ‘seat time’ in re their flying. Given the author’s ‘seat time’ in the corporate world, he has a Ph.D’s (well, maybe a Master’s) worth of experience there.

He moved on to Bechtel and contract engineering after being laid off in August 1971 from his ‘permanent’ job with Kaiser Aluminum. From a historical view, August of 1971 was also an auspicious month for the United States. That was the point when President Richard Milhous Nixon took the country’s currency off the gold standard. I digress only to suggest that economic things have never been the same since. It’s what led to the author’s layoff and the current economic malaise.

As the author’s corporate commitments declined after 'the meltdown' of 2008, he started to write more and took several writing courses. A trip to Panama resulted in an article being published in a local newspaper and a position with a travel company putting together an online travelogue for 120 world cities.

He's looking forward to writing for Associated Content. See Interests & Areas of Expertise.

  • Favorite Book of 2011
This is a brilliant spotlight on the Current Economy Basics 101. The authors begin with the ‘poor choices’ human beings seem to periodically be afflicted with. What Were We Thinking? "We made the easy choice not thinking of the consequences."
  • Portobelo on the Caribbean Coast of Panama
Author traveled to Panama to investigate a generous program encouraging North Americans to immigrate. After talking with a legal advisor, he took a side trip to Portobelo as an excuse, as if he needed one, to explore more of the Panamanian countryside.
