MARTIN KING
Martin Luther Chukwuemeka King, an international journalist, is the West Africa Editor of the London-based pan-African publication, AFRICATODAY magazine, coordinating the magazine’s field offices across the sub region.
He is a Nigeria-News-and-Events Analyst for the BBC World Service; and was, until lately, also a Freelance Correspondent covering Nigeria and West Africa for South Africa’s Media24.
Martin’s career trajectory spans several Nigerian newspapers, including THE GUARDIAN. He also helped pioneer many others, notably THE POST EXPRESS, THE ANCHOR and THISDAY newspapers.
He was at various times deputy editor of the weekend edition of THE POST EXPRESS and deputy editor of THE ANCHOR’s daily edition.
An ace Foreign Correspondents, Martin, at THE POST EXPRESS, originated and sustained one of the longest-running Diplomatic Interview series ever on any Nigerian newspaper, the Diplomatic Bytes.
He covered the 1996 United States elections; and, Ghana’s 2008 elections among others. In the Ghana election, he was also a member of the Media Strategy Group (MSG) for Ghana’s immediate past Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen’s 2008 bid for the Ghanaian presidency.
Martin is an alumnus of the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), Berlin, Germany and Abia State University, Uturu-Nigeria, from where he has a postgraduate diploma in journalism and a bachelor’s degree in English and Literary Studies respectively. He has also attended several professional workshops and seminars both locally and internationally.
A passionate apostle for regional integration, Martin was a member of the ECOWAS Election Observer Mission to Ghana’s 2008 /2009 Elections. He has interviewed several leaders across the sub region, including current President of the ECOWAS Commission Ambassador Victor Gbeho as well as the commission’s immediate past president Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas.
