Writing calms me, makes me happy and gives me feelings of accomplishment, self-satisfaction and pride.
Growing up, my father continually reminded me: “Mike, the more interests you have, the more interesting you will be.” How right my father was.
Thanks Dad! I have more interests in my life than I have time. I do not consider myself a “subject matter expert” on any particular issue. I do, however, consider myself competent in areas where I have developed interest.
A famous author once said: “Scientists are dreamers and engineers are doers.” Though not degreed, I feel I maintain both qualities. I spent many years working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. I am substantially educated.
I maintain interest in the core sciences and enjoy conceiving, designing and building products of my imagination. But, my primary pursuit is writing about the things I dream about doing.
My first novel is in progress; simultaneously I am developing a non-fiction piece whose working title is “Great Ideas.” I am working to bring my first-ever website on line. My experience comes from the old-style print media; I continue to educate myself on the new-age electronic media. Night and day would be my best analogy of those two related, but completely different industries.
Additionally, for Yahoo! Voices, I am currently authoring a series of articles, as follows:
A Series on America's Greatest Trees.
A Series on America's Greatest Small Trees.
A Series on America's Greatest Bushes.
A Series on America's Greatest Vines.
A Series on Americas Greatest Ground Cover.
A Series on Americas Greatest Grasses.
It's a plate full, but as I love to say: "You will never loose unless you quit!"
I'm not quitting ... any time soon.
