Sarah Michaels
I am a recently married senior in college getting my bachelor of music in vocal performance and a minor in English. I am involved in student ministries, theatre and opera. On the side, I teach voice lessons to college students who want to improve their singing abilities.
Born in Germany, my family traveled extensively with the military. They sent me to German school for 3 years and often had me do the shopping as a child, leaving me fluent in German and English. I was homeschooled when I was not in German school.
My mother forced me to study poetry and write my own growing up and at some point I realized I enjoyed it, and have since taken poetry classes. I have received honorable mention and have won the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival sonnet competition and continue to write poetry for fun and occasionally for competition or for friends.
My husband and I are both passionate cooks and don't get a long well in the kitchen because we both want to be in charge. Neither of us is very recipe-oriented; I love experimenting with flavors with herbs and spices and creating my own culinary masterpieces. We don't have much experience but are learning a lot!
In a couple years my husband and I plan on backpacking through Glacier National Park, but I have a lot of getting in shape to do! When I lived in Colorado, I went skiing frequently and still enjoy it when I get the chance. My parents are both very athletic and as a child my father taught me to surf, and I was forced to climb 14ers in Colorado, a practice I regret giving up. My husband is an avid biker, often disappearing for 4 or 5 hours, and he is teaching me to enjoy it too.
One day I hope to get a masters in musicology or English Literature, have children and live in the country raising animals and tending to a large garden but till then my husband and I will live in affordable apartments, save for the future and enjoy our young, not-particularly-well-off state of life. I fully believe life is an adventure
