Andy Kopsa
New York-based writer Andy Kopsa is a former Iowa newspaper editor who covered the first-in-the-nation caucuses that set Barack Obama on his historic presidential course.
Born and raised in Iowa, Andy went on to study photography at Columbia College of Chicago. After Chicago, she took a photo residence at Tulane University in New Orleans where she also studied feminist political theory.
Eventually, her expertise in photography took her to New York City where she had opportunity to work with some of the top photographers in the world.
Andy and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Eddie Adams traveled throughout Southeast Asia in 1999, photographing human rights defenders for the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation book "Speak Truth To Power."
Working in Cambodia's killing fields, New Delhi slums and in the brush of Northern Thailand, she and Eddie worked to bring the images of brave human rights workers to the fore.

Andy also writes for Open Salon, where she is often a featured contributor.
