Cindie Miller

Journalist/editor for two-plus decades, my life experience has been as varied as the states in which I've lived. My first job was a wrangler at a dude ranch at the age of 12; that led to horse trainer/ breeder/show planner/team penner/ author. When one of my colts ran over me in a fright, broke my nose and knocked out two teeth, my husband decided it was time to seek a new "hobby," so he introduced me to NASCAR. That road also provided thrills and stories a-plenty, as I met and recorded events in the lives of new heroes Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty, and Jeff Gordon. As a youngster I dreamt of becoming a singer/actress on Broadway: in real life, I sang in honkey-tonks and bars from Nevada to Nebraska, acting on the small stage instead of that in New York. I've worked in restaurants and saloons, hospitals and the great outdoors, and I've traveled the lower 48 and parts of Canada in a big truck. And yes, there was that teenage marriage to a deranged CIA-agent/psychopath, from whom I learned the skills of survival and deception.
All of which is great fodder for a writer, so none of it has gone to waste. Through it all, I've learned much more than I can ever teach'"my new vocation'"and I hope to put it all to good use in the great universe of Story.

  • Remembering My Father
My father's death was one of the most significant losses in my life. After I grew up and compared my childhood to those of my friends and coworkers, I realized just how special my father was.
