Maryann Tobin

Maryann Tobin is a professional journalist who recently appeared on the History channel in Brad Meltzer's DECODED: 2012.

She has more than 3 million hits on the worldwide web, and also has more than 35 years of experience breaking, training and riding horses.

In her early career at Belmont Park in New York, she worked for Lucien Lauren, the Hall of Fame trainer of the legendary Triple Crown winner, Secretariat. Some of the classic stakes winners she exercised and broke include two time Beldame Stakes winner and Eclipse Award Filly of the Year, Desert Vixen; multiple stakes winners, Pearl Necklace, Valid Appeal, and Iron Constitution, to name a few.

Maryann was among the first female jockey in America. She rode her first race at Pennsylvania's Penn National racetrack under the name of M.A. Russo, on July 31, 1977.

After retiring from thoroughbred racing, Maryann moved to Florida where she actively continues her devotion to horses, dogs and livestock through animal training and rescue.
