Top 10 Films of 2011My picks for the Top 10 Films of 2011. Not a lot to pick from. It was one cruddy year.
-
The Summer of AlrightnessIn no particular order (aside from Star Trek) I present the SUMMER of 2009....the bland summer of 2009...the summer I think that could have been better settling for alright.
-
"District 9" Movingly Thought ProvokingThere is an interesting concept with this. It probably could take on several different perspectives that tie-in with our reality, but the one I'm thinking of is illegal aliens and that debate. -
"The Time Traveler's Wife" a Good ParadoxThey never specified by dates where they were. It was based on how things looked in the scene as well as the actor's age. I liked that. -
"Julie & Julia" Twice the Motivation, Twice Actress PowerI like how Julie & Julia show that working hard at something you love and want to do and seeing it to the end actually really makes a difference, and it may make a difference not only in yours but other people's lives. -
"G.I. Joe" OHNOSE*....It's Just Action-GO JOE!A toy is created. A cartoon is created from the toys. A few comic books are made. Now a movie has happened. History dictates that there is not a lot of thought put into this to begin with, so expectations should be around the mindless action area. -
"Funny People" is Conflicted ComedyIt, as well as Apatow, had a hard time deciding if it was to be a darkly comic experience or an overly dramatic with a bit of funny experience. -
"The Ugly Truth" is it was Misogynisticly AlrightIt is an uncouth movie that I just think was alright funny. It had some outrageous moments that had me really laughing loudly, but over all it was far too simple for my taste. -
"(500) Days of Summer" Painfully TrueGordon-Levitt and Deschanel did painfully good job. I really like Deschanel. I think she's a great actress but she reminded me so much of someone who shared similar relationship philosophy that it was so easy to totally dislike her.
-
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" a Bloody Awesome MovieOne minute things are funny and the next it's depressing. It's a rollercoaster of human emotions and it's not at all jarring or annoying. It's smooth and reasonable.
-
"I Love You, Beth Cooper" Yummmm...If you liked the trailers then you will pretty much enjoy the entire film. It has more moments that are funnier than the trailer.
-
"Bruno" 'Worse Than Cancer'I was not offended by anything that I saw in this movie. I laughed a lot. However, the problem is that the movie isn't 20 minutes long. It's an hour and two minutes longer. An hour and two minutes of NOT funny.....
-
"Public Enemies" & "Ice Age 3" Give New Meaning to Mediocre---and NO it was NOT NecessaryI have never wrote for two movies in a single movie review, but I'm sick and tired of horrible movies being passed off as great ideas for summer and these two have broke the camel's back.
-
"My Sister's Keeper" There Will Be TearsI think My Sister's Keeper is very good with the emotional pull it has and the way it tells a story that, as I've heard, comes from a book that hails from different points of view. It does so without causing confusion in the storyline.
-
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" My Autobot Heart is RustedTransformers II was one one-liner after another and the action was more like someone smashing pots and pans together.
-
"The Proposal" I'm Amused Just Thinking About ItIt's rare that I would find a comedy amusing and get lost in how long it is taking for it to be over.
-
"Away We Go" the Real Dynamic DuoThere is an array of actors as well as characters. With great acting great characters emerge. Get the right actors to play the quirky characters and you get characters that no longer are being played but actually exist.
-
"The Hangover" Down Right Freakn' Awesome...itching for the next part to come so I could laugh because that was freakin' hilarious and so was that and that and that and of course that.
-
"The Land of the Lost" Not to Be Confused with a Funny and Entertaining FilmThe Land of the Lost was destructive to a stupid after school show. Silly and retarded "Land of the Lost" TV show was mindless child fare. This Will Ferrell version is just mindless.
-
"UP" Lifts YouUP is like an emotional rainbow. There's not a single emotion that they left untouched. And just like Skittles you'll taste the rainbow.
-
"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" the Amy Adams ShowAmy Adams plays Amelia Earhart and she steals the show from the moment she arrives. Every time she is on the screen it's awesome.
-
"Terminator Salvation" is Just a Dollar DonationThe acting was alright. Christian Bale is a great actor but his portrayal of John Connor was melodramatic and, as I've coined, Bad Bale. Bad acting is different...
-
Kradam - Adam Fans Need a Shot of MannersWWAD. (What Would Adam Do)
-
Glambert Fans Need to Appreciate Kris AllenThere are certain Adam Lambert fans that are getting on my nerves....They also think that anyone who believes he can't sing are the people that have horrible ears. They cannot and will not be wrong.
-
Star Trek - XI - Trektasatic!...I wanted MORE. The movie was 2+ hours and I just wanted more. I wanted a 3 hour epic that Lord of the Rings boasted for three Decembers straight.
-
"Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past" I Barely Even Want to Talk About ItThe best parts were when the girlfriend ghost came. The first one was Allison Vandermeersh, played by Emma Stone, and she was awesome.
-
"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" Makes Me Want X4I am a diehard X-Men fan. I know enough about the comic book to understand everyone's past as well as their personalities and important storylines.
-
"Earth" Charming Repeat in a Godly ToneThe shots of the animals in their habitats are fantastic, heartbreaking, enjoyable, crushing and enlightening. Animals are just as funny as humans with how the react to different things.
-
"The Soloist" Ostentatious DisasterIt is supposed to be based on a true story, but they altered it so much that it's so loosely based on actual events they might as well have made their own version of what happened instead of pretending to go off the book. Oh wait...they did.
-
"Crank High Voltage" Mind Mushing EntertainmentIt was the same old same old; there was nothing totally outstanding about it that would make it better than the first one.
-
"State of Play" Be in the KnowClocking in close to 2 hours I did not check my cell phone to see what time it was. I was engrossed the entire time about what was going on.
-
"17 Again" I'll See it AgainThere are flaws, but I enjoyed the over all picture and therefore gave it the highest grade I could. I say this because I realize that I am one of the few critics that actually really liked it....
-
"Hannah Montana the Movie" Entertaining, I Know :(This whole Hannah Montana thing reminds me of "Jem" that 80's cartoon. I placed a photo to jumpstart some memories on that.
-
"Fast & Furious" is Everything that Makes Nothing SpectacularThe cars were hot. The action sequences were fun and exciting. The acting was bottom of the barrel.
-
"Race to Witch Mountain" PG Thrill Ride.I have not seen the original, but I heard that the difference makes this more of a retooling than a retelling. I think Disney is a smart company as a whole.
-
"Observe and Report" No Humor HereThere were three funny parts in this entire film. If I were to sit here and get specific about what they were, then I'd have to state I've forgotten.
-
"Adventureland" It's a Good Teen ClassicThe trailers were funny. The movie was dramatic and funny. The problem I had with this film had more to do with the length.
-
"Monsters Vs Aliens" Ain't No Disney/PixarIt's like I rehash this every single time there is a DreamWorks Animated film. The story is alright. The execution is poor. The script is so flat.
-
"Knowing" Alienating Nicolas Cage from the Good and Smart ActorsThat picture looks like she's asking, "Are you sure this is a good script?" And Cage states, "I don't know what a good script is any more. Pity me."
-
"Sunshine Cleaning" a Dysfunctional Family Still Has LoveI thought Sunshine Cleaning was charming, darkly funny and heartwarming. My only qualm is with how many crime scenes they cleaned up.
-
"Duplicity" Slowly Tragic with WitBy the time hit the halfway mark I figured there was something up. The end panned out in my head.
-
"I Love You, Man" Bromantic and BrotasticThe trailer isn't a let down. You laugh during the trailer you most certainly will laugh throughout this film.
-
"The Watchmen" Graphic Blood, Guts, Thoughts and Blue PenisFrom the beginning to the end the movie is murky with who is good and who is evil. It is questionable on what way to bring about 'peace' to mankind.
-
"Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail" Makes You Laugh and ThinkFunny like being a the lunch table and the friend that is a comedian just spouts out line after line of funny and laughter just bellows out of everyone sitting there, but it's not so much it causes tears.
-
"Fired Up" is a Fun Movie, is is a Fun MovieIt is a premise that has been done before. This movie even has a scene where they watch part of Bring It On. All premises have been done before. What then matters is it entertaining? I believe it was.
-
No to Grave NominationsThis was written when he was nominated but it is still relevant after he won)They didn't even think he could hack it. These movie know-it-alls didn't think it was possible. And now the same people that thought it wasn't possible...
-
"The International" WaawawaawawaawaThe International is as thrilling as waking up in bed in the morning without having to figure out where you are or who you are sleeping next to and the question that dominates the mind, at this point, did you or didn't you.
-
"Taken" Justice as We Wish ItIt was a thrilling ride because Bryan puts up with nothing from anyone. He tended to be always one step ahead of all the 'bad guys'.
-
"Confessions of a Shopaholic" Fisher Scores, Story BoresThe story holds up until you decide to think that you deserve more than cheap plywood to sooth your bruised pockets that just paid 9$ to see a movie.
-
"Revolutionary Road" was a Stationary TaleLet me put this simply: everything that Doubt is, Revolutionary Road is not. The two are similar because they both have an awful lot to do with talking.
-
"Coraline" It's OkBut I think that the story was a bit dry for my taste. It was really long. Animated films are not made to be so long and drawn out. It felt like it was a 30 minute short that was stretched out.
-
"Push" Move, Watch, Shift, Sniff, Shadow, and BleedWhenever there are powers people make the comparison to X-Men or "Heroes" and that's alright if they want to be boring and do so, but not every film that has people with abilities is a knock off.
-
"Hotel for Dogs" Boring Sets Up ShopHotel for Dogs is the movie that I would dread if my kids liked it.
-
"He's Just Not that into You" One Relationship Will Ruin the Entire BarrelSecond of all I'm going to match up the couples and then grade their story. This way it's easier for people to understand my frustration.
-
"Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" Fun PrequelOne thing is a fact, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is better than the second one: Underworld: Evolution. Why? It was fun, thrilling, exciting and lacked all that ridiculous romance that bogged down Evolution.
-
"Inkheart" was Nowhere Near Inspiring as Words Can BeWhat an imaginative story that was withered to nothing but drivel via Hollywood's finger of death.
-
"Defiance" What History Class Skipped OverStory wise it had historical backing which makes it more tolerable, because of time, than if it were fiction. They defied the Nazis as well as anyone who stood up with them.
-
"Gran Torino" a Star of a Story Despite the ActorsSometimes a movie comes along and it's the story that is stunning more so than anything else the film has to offer. Grand Torino is that kind of movie.
-
"The Wrestler" Bleeding Hearts Dry"I'm just a broken down piece of meat" is said in the trailer and in the film where it is used dramatically, I thought it was cheesy.
-
"Bride Wars" Straight to DVD Disaster...and a script by Casey Wilson, June Raphael and Greg de Paul who don't have a blockbuster movie between them and you get a straight to DVD disaster.
-
"The Reader" is a Decent PerspectiveI'm sort of sick of long movies. I don't know who these people think they are in making movies that last longer than my attention span but they need to work on it.
-
"Yes Man" Skip It, PleaseJim Carrey was alright. He was not that funny in this film. This film's story line wasn't that funny. They had all the right elements in it:
-
"Doubt" is Undoubtedly Awe-tasticThe subtleties in this film are numerous and without a doubt one of the nuances that make this movie. It all rests solely on the shoulders of the actors (just like on the stage) to make the film become powerful, meaningful and memorable.
-
"Bedtime Stories" Pre-Parental Approval to Watch Over and Over Again... but with the bland fare that is marketed for kids and then not so great for the adults to sit through I think that if a film is good for the kids and the adults it's worthy of a high mark.
-
"Marley & Me" Will Give You the Case of Doggy AppreciationMarley & Me is one of those films that just snagged me by surprise. I thought it was not going to be anything special. But as I was viewing it I was flipped because it was way different than I had thought.
-
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" a Story that Flirts with Our CuriosityLet me jump right into this and say that Brad and Cate do a fantastic job. They have great chemistry together. So well was it I think that we might hear about how he leaves Angelina for the ever hotter Cate.
-
"Frost/Nixon" Fallen Pride Private/PubliclyWow. I now have someone to rival my first Presidential pick for Best Actor: Frank Langella as Richard Nixon. This is one of those times I can't pick between how well two people have done in their roles.
-
"The Spirit" is Sick like Webster SaidIt missed the mark of awesome and settled for the mark of disgrace.
-
"Valkyrie" the Greatest Plan that FailedIt was the greatest plan to have never worked. Knowing that this was not how Hitler came to his demise made this difficult, because the plan was so well thought out that I had to keep reminding myself that it fails.
-
"The Tale of Despereaux" Could Be Boring-erThe characters were slightly charming but not enough to eek out caring for them or what they were going through. They were too one dimensional. Compacted with the storyline that was boring it produced a film that just failed.
-
"Seven Pounds" a Slow Dance that Makes the Eyes HeavyI enjoyed the idea of the film. It's very creative in thought and poorly planed out in execution.
-
"Slumdog Millionaire" Should Be Based on a Tale of TruthThe idea is rather simple. The execution of this story, on the other hand, is rather complex.
-
"Nothing like the Holidays" is Everything like FamilyThere was no outstanding actor in this film. They were all decent. They all did a well enough job that the story was told and that was that.
-
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" Not the Original. NopeThere were many things that were different about this version than the older 1950's one. The main difference was the creative flare that this version had.
-
"Nobel Son" Creatively Quirkyly UnnobleI like quirky stories and Nobel Son is rather quirky if not amusing.
-
"Cadillac Records" Could Have, Would Have, Isn'tThe singing was fantastic. They could not have done better than what they gave.
-
"Milk" Heroically HeartbreakingThe Oscar Buzz on him is misplaced; majorly. If there are actors that should be considered for an Oscar in this film it should be...
-
"Transporter 3" Disappointment III really like Transporter. I did not like the second one and I can state that the third one is one that I liked slightly better. I am so disappointed.
-
"Australia" Epic and TouchingEpic can mean lots of things such as really long and tiresome or outstanding and awesome. I am personally using it as outstanding and awesome. I liked A.I., The Village, and The Happening while other people did not.
-
"Four Christmases" Hit/MissVince Vaughn is the same in almost every single film. I can't imagine how annoying a movie would be if all it was about were the characters he played.
-
"Twilight" Girly, Girl Vampire-ishTwilight seems to have waved a uterus magic wand and created girly, girlish vampires. They've, in a sense, bedazzled them.
-
"Quantum of Solace" Discomforting StoryFirst I wanted to state that I don't really like 007 so that should help those that do to realize I might not be the best gauge for them if this is good or not. But most likely if you really like 007 you've already seen it.
-
"Bolt" is ThrillisiousDisney has talent that just can't seem to be matched. Maybe I'm just attached, but last weeks Madagascar II did not have the same character cool and attachment that Bolt has.
-
"Call + Response" Good Intentions, Messy ExecutionI was interested in this documentary. Then I saw it and I was still interested but less in need of a nap. I did fall asleep.
-
"The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" Friendship that Transcends PrejudiceIt is a harrowing tale and a prism of a story.
-
"Role Models" Tries to Be More Than Crude HumorFirst of all Paul Rudd is always the grumpy character with an issue and Seann William Scott is always the carefree cheerful person who is horny. It's not a problem in this film, but it's starting to get redundant.
-
"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" Does Not Have a Heartfelt ConnectionI like the animation because it's different and that's good. The problem is that for some reason DreamWorks just lingers behind Disney, to me.
-
"The Changeling" Drowns Story in Unnecessary LengthAngelina Jolie does not disappoint in her weeping, her anger, her frustration; her array of emotions are displayed for the audience in a rainbow of vibrant colors throughout the film.
-
"RocknRolla" a Rockin' Good TimeI like Guy Ritchie movies. They are like watching foreign films without the subtitles. I sometimes need subtitles even though what they are supposedly speaking is some form of English.
-
"Zack and Miri Make a Shhhh" Utah Won't Let Me Type ItIf you watch "House" you know that Dr. House is not a nice person. Now when he decides to be nice people don't buy it because they think he's up to something, so his nice is not seen as sincere.
-
"Pride and Glory" ...BlehI can't really go on and on about this film because....
-
"Saw V" Boring Set UpOne could state you've seen one you've seen them all, but that's not the case with the Saw Series because they are different. I like I, II and IV. III and V were set up films....
-
"W." Baseball, Beer and BriefingsIt's funny because I really wanted to see W. but it's not that type of movie that I just drool for, normally. Apparently I've been doing this a lot as of late. Ha. I am, by no means, someone that stands up for what Bush does or has done as President.
-
"The Secret Lives of Bees" Bruised Heart and a SmileThe Secret Lives of Bees is a fantastic character movie. It's been a long while since I've seen a film that champions characters.
-
"Sex Drive" it was Not an Hour and 1/2Of course the importance of this road trip is to de-sex a character. That's always important in films like these. The odd thing is that people are comparing this to Super Bad and that's retarded.
-
"Appaloosa" Friendship Stands TallWesterns are, as I've stated before, not one of the genres I like. I do like some westerns but it is an iffy process. With Appaloosa I was on that iffy precipice.
-
"Fireproof" What a Burning SurpriseOk, the acting was pretty good. It's rated PG because of the fire sequences and some of the shouting, but there's no foul language. Cameron has to yell and get in the face of his onscreen wife and he was fierce.
-
"The Express" a Powerful TrotThe movie is over 2 hours long and that was slightly noticeable once the end came around where he won the trophy. It was pushing the too long length for a moment, but then it ended and I concluded it was a good movie over all.
-
"City of Ember" Fades to ForgottenI never read the book. The general idea is interesting, but the movie seems to flounder a bit. I dislike the character development.
-
"Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" Plays Loyalties TuneI wanted to see this film from the moment I saw the poster months ago. Michael Cera is just a funny guy. Watching those webisodes proved that more and more to me.
-
"Flash of Genius" is an Inventive RomanceI've seen far too many documentaries that point to how big business snuff the little man and their ideas that could further the human race just because they can't profit from it should it be invented.
-
"Religulous" Funny, Smart and PreachyThere is a lot of funny moments in this film that are due to some people that just don't have answers to some simple questions that come from Bill Maher who admits to not fully knowing.
-
"American Carol" Funny EnoughIt's a movie that mocks Michael Moore. I dislike Michael Moore for reasons that do not center on his stupid opinions but more around how he treats those who disagree with his stupid opinions.
-
"Blindness" Totally Lost Sight of Storyline ImportanceIt's been a long while since I've seen a movie that totally made me rethink how horrible I thought Brother Where Art Thou was.
-
"Eagle Eye" Cherry Phone; ExcitingLet's just get this straight, Eagle Eye is not Oscar caliber and it's certainly not one of the best films of the year, but it does deliver scene of action after action after action.
-
"Ghost Town" is Charming in a Negative WayI saw this trailer and instantly I thought of Heart and Souls with Robert Downey Jr. as the kind child turn cold hearted meany head.
-
"Tyler Perry's the Family that Preys" Laughs, Loves and CaresNormally I just stray from seeing his films. I don't really know why I just have this aversion to names in titles.
-
"Burn After Reading" was Laugh After ViewingIt's always a hit and miss with me and my liking of a Coen Brother's film. I see that they are very talented and that if I dislike one of their films it's mainly because it's just not my taste and not because of any lack in the creative department.
-
"Bangkok Dangerous" Isn't Even Close to Being SuchThis is the lull of the movie season. Ever been to an awesome concert outside and then used a porta potty?
-
"Hamlet 2" Means to Offend and of Course MendIf you are easily offended this film is so not for you. It will offend you with the first couple of minutes, most likely.
-
"The Rocker" Old Fashion FunAnother movie with a musician in the film and this time it's a film that actually deals with music.
-
"American Teen" Ordinarily Labeled with Extraordinary InsightI will tell you what I learned from watching this and that is that teenagers just should skip the whole relationship thing until they are out of high school.
-
"Death Race" Thrill Ride, Not a WasteIt's all about the action. It's all about the fun. It's not all about the plot or the believability.
-
"The Bunny House" Good Bunny Lovin' TimeI expected this movie to be silly and fun, but it was riot.
-
"Tropic Thunder" Roar of LaughterTropic Thunder starts off with laughter and doesn't let up until the final moment prior to the credits. With talent like Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Jack Black how could one go wrong?
-
"Pineapple Express" Pot-a-rificThe storyline was simple, run away from the bad guys and not get caught.
-
"Bottle Shock" for the Good Old BoysI was entertained by the entire film. There were a lot of old people around us seeing this film.
-
"Swing Vote" Propaganda VOTE!I enjoyed the over all theme of this movie. The actual delivery was half hearted and what could have been awesome fell short of that.
-
"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" No.No. I dislike going on and on about certain movies that just don't work and this is one. I did not like it, no I didn't, not a single bit.
-
"Step Brothers" Step Up on Semi-ProWell I laughed, a lot. I laughed a lot and I meant it.
-
"The X-Files: I Want to Believe" and so Did IWhat could have made it better? A better story, better villains, better reason for them to come back and more on Molder's sister than just a mere mention.
-
"Mamma Mia!" Psychotic Fun and Not a Chance in HellTo me this film was psychotic in more ways than one. It was too over the top, too cheese, too silly, too lacking in singing talent, too big eyed OH MY GOD moments, too corny and lacking of true heart. It had the potential to give it all, but I got nothing.
-
"The Dark Knight" Ledger Has the Last LaughThe storyline was believable. It was dark, gritty, witty, fitting and cold. That makes The Dark Knight the closest to Batman ambiance as the first, if not closer.
-
"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" Paved with Good IntentionsHellboy II has something that makes it interesting as a story and a movie that other superhero movies have as well, but because Hellboy is different it makes it unique enough to not have to be compared to other superheroes from D.C. or Marvel.
-
"Kit Kittredge: An American Girl" Full of Character and Hopet is children's movie, for sure. But it was a good movie. It was a good movie because it was character driven and that is an important thing.
-
"Hancock" Appreciated A-HoleI would like to state that they did a fantastic job on the trailer. Normally trailers tend to rape the film and when I see it I start placing everything together and figuring out what was going on. Not with Hancock.
-
"Wanted" Dead or Alive..Wanted, on the other hand, didn't have any lovey dovey crap and it excelled not only in story but visually.
-
"WALL-E" Echo of Silent Movies of the PastWhat does make silent movies so awesome is that they have to rely on facial expressions and hand gestures.... WALLE-E comes into that same range as a silent movie, even though it had speaking parts.
-
"The Love Guru" Intimacy Clever, but LackingThe Love Guru had its moments.
-
"Get Smart" Good Thing It's a DestinationIt was an amusing movie and entertaining.
-
"The Happening " is an Environmentalist SmorgasbordThe story is every bit as unique as I would expect for a film by M. Night Shyamalan. The delivery was a bit more light than his previous films even though the subject matter was a bit grim and it was first rated R film.
-
"The Incredible Hulk" is Subtly MajesticNow the Hulk and how he looked. I think he looked fantastic. Five years did him some good. The screen shots don't' do him justice.
-
"The Fall" Flirts and Romances This MoviegoerThe Fall has a tale within a tale and the within tale is visually stunning. The colors and the cinematography were phenomenal. It was rich and added more brilliance to a film that I had fallen in love with from the moment it started.
-
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is Moviegoer Pleasant and Hissssstorically CinematicAfter thinking about the other three films and how they were not really grounded in reality I've liked this film a little more. I was never a huge Indiana Jones fan.
-
"The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" Dark Wit of Fantastical FantasyThe 2 hour and 20 minute movie was good without a moment of slow, for it paced itself perfectly. This need to always compare a movie to another movie when it's not that obvious, other than when a critic points it out, is a waste of written word.
-
"Happens in Vegas" Just Married IIIt is very much like I was watching a Just Married II, with the addition (un-uniquely) of a million dollars, than a movie that was called Happens in Vegas.
-
GO "Speed Racer" GO....or NotA B+ is rather kind on my behalf to give Speed Racer. But because of the visuals... I give it such a high mark.
-
"Made of Honor" Bland Enough to Leave a Bad TasteMy Best Friend's Wedding through the male's viewpoint. Made of Honor.
-
"Iron Man" the Stark Superhero of MarvelIt's another billionaire hero. In this case one that is more deviant than the Bat and far wittier than the Spider. Iron Man is exactly that: he's a man's man.
-
"Baby Mama" Just Wasn'tBaby Mama was trying to have charm and I just didn't feel it. The chemistry between Tina Fey and Amy Poehler was there but it wasn't.
-
"Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" is so Gimcrack Dictionary.com's Word of the DayThis movie had low standards and those that like this movie also have low standards.
-
"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" Same Old Same OldNo to Jonah Hill's part. NO, NO, NO. He is the MAIN reason I had to lower my grade for this movie.
-
"88 Minutes" Gunk GUNKY GUNK!This is the weekend of bad acting.
-
"The Forbidden Kingdom" Trifecta Movie in All Its B+ GloryI did not like the beginning or the end with the 'bully' character. It was cheesy acting and it really took away from the overall film.
-
"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" 'Error Shrinks from Inquiry'I had this longer review created but I decided against it. Really what is there to say?
-
"Street Kings" Really Street PrincesOver all I did not really like the film. I give it a B mainly for acting and not because of the content. It was too predictable in what was going on.
-
"Smart People" Not Heart PeopleWhat I expected was a movie that had wit and heart. I got the wit part and almost, almost got the heart part. I think it was a little bit wooden in the heart area.
-
"Leatherheads" Relative to the Funny SnailAs I viewed this film I was reminded of black and white Carry Grant. Mainly it was during the times that Clooney and Zellweger were having their verbal sparing.....But then the dramatic parts would rear their ugly heads and I would just cringe...
-
"Superhero Movie" Super-Silly-DUH!I like superheroes and their films, even this one. Though the problem I had with a movie called Superhero Movie it surely did focus on mainly one superhero, when it could have had more than just one for funny factor.
-
"Stop-Loss" Script LossStop-Loss does have something going for it, other than Phillippe, that the anti-war message isn't as prevalent in this film as it has been in films past.
-
"Run, Fat Boy, Run" Spatula Whack!I was entertained. This was the film that had the trailer that had me cringe every time I saw it.
-
"21" Count on JimIt was, and I am pretty sure, 30 minutes too long. It was excessive with certain story points or scenes that really didn't need the amount of attention that they got.
-
"Drillbit Taylor" is a Drill Bit, UrbanelySuperbad's characters are reprised in this film. The same three guys are in this film slightly altered for the PG-13 crowd. That is a mark against this film.
-
"Under the Same Moon" Child Abandonment 101Have you ever had an opinion shoved down your throat until you wanted to gag and run away? That's what the first half of this movie does.
-
DVD Review "Judgment at Nuremburg" was a Verbal Sparing Match of the Third OrderPersonally I dislike chatty movies. Those are the movies that all they do is talk, talk, talk, talk. However, I really liked this one. I liked the ideas that were presented and the way it was filmed.
-
DVD Review "City of God" Everyone Who Died Deserved to DieI don't know what kind of story they wanted to tell but what I got was that these kids had guns and they shoot anyone, no matter if they are four years old, just to get what they want. There were NO good guys in this film.
-
"Horton Hears a Who" is a Good Movie Among FewSuffice it to say it could very well be my favorite story from Dr. Seuss. Simply put I liked this movie and I intend on buying it for several reasons that I'm going to list for all to know.
-
"Never Back Down" Mutt Child of the Karate Kid and Fight ClubAs the title suggests this movie is a poor man's The Karate Kid and Fight Club melded into one.
-
DVD REVIEW: "Breakfast at Tiffany's" Finds Lost PuppiesHepburn was perfect in this role. She was very magnetic and alluring and fashionable. Her mannerisms were so prissy and primped. The way she spoke was like an expensive diamond that has been well polished and refined.
-
"Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" is Simple, Good Old TimeIt had the makings to be great and it just fell a little short. I was not disappointed; I was just not as pleased as I was hoping to be.
-
"10,000 B.C." Inaction *sigh*Visually 10,000 B.C. is engrossing. . . .I saw it to see a story in action. And that is exactly what I got; story inaction.
-
"The Bank Job" was Stranger Than FictionAside from that horrible beginning the movie was actually pretty good. It was witty and clever with a great cast. Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows were magnetic.
-
"Citizen Kane" Rich in Story and CharacterI enjoyed the wit, the snarky wisp and darkness that brooded through out this movie. I think that Orson Welles was impressive.
-
"Witness" Silently HypnoticIn books you have to do a lot of telling and in order to make a movie stand out as different there has to be more physical appeal; such as looks. Witness does have a lot of those moments where the actors just look at one another and a silent conversation is occurring.
-
"Semi-Pro" Rhymes with Semi-NO!There were funny moments. The rest of the movie was like a bunch of trash canned skits that were part of some Saturday night fun time.
-
"In Bruges" Hell Hath Wit and GuiltThe characters are reprehensible but were made enchanting by their mannerisms, the lines and then their actions would reinstate how dark they are. But it was not enough to make them detestable. It was good writing, directing and acting that pulled that off.
-
"Penelope" Has a Hidden TalentPart of the silver lining was the cast. I really like the cast. I was not shocked to see them perform fantastically.
-
"A Scanner Darkly""Multiple Layers of Philosophical StuffI profess to be a quick witted...However, in this movie I have to question whether or not I was actually following along or was just enjoying the odd conversations littered with interesting viewpoints that were slightly thought provoking.
-
"Superman: Doomsday" Direct to DVD KryptoniteIt's too far from the comic book there's no point in nitpicking that as a reason for not liking it.
-
"Be Kind Rewind" is the Perfect Saturday MovieI like Mos Def and Jack Black. I think they make a funny duo.....Be Kind Rewind failed because it was trying to find that happy medium of witty, quirky and heartwarming like Little Miss Sunshine minus the dark aspect.
-
I Am "Charlie Bartlett"I found the movie to be mildly comically clever.
-
"Vantage Point" OMG Points-of-View...NO WAY!As for the movie it waste no time in getting to the action and showing what was the point. There are several vantage points through, of course, different characters.
-
"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" Boring and yet WittyThis one was just one of those movies that people talk about and suggested as good so I Netflixed it. I found it to be a drawn out story.
-
"2001: A Space Odyssey" Visually Gratifying and Stunningly BeautifulLet me state that I had to continuously remind myself that this movie came out in 1968. And every time that I did remind myself of that I was re-astounded at what my eyes were beholding.
-
"Definitely, Maybe" is Probably How People Feel About Wanting to See ItThat trailer revealed too much...The good thing is that there are funny scenes in the movie that the trailer did not touch upon and touching moments that the trailer didn't even mentioned.
-
"Jumper" Revs but SputtersI think the story was compelling via the idea. It could have given a bit more on the reason for the jumpers and less on the love aspect.
-
"There Will Be Blood" is Boringly FascinatingI thoroughly enjoyed Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano when they had scenes together. Every single scene that they were in with one another was outstanding. They have great hate chemistry.
-
"Untraceable" Ctrl Alt + Delete, ThnkxI suggest no one see this movie because I can't see it thrilling anyone over the age of 5.
-
"Cloverfield" Code Name Shaky Cam SicknessCloverfield will make you appreciate the creative wonder that it is or you'll hate it for the shaky shaker that it is.
-
"27 Dresses" Womanly Charming with a Bit of Male Wit27 Dresses is a decent film and it's not a horrible to be dragged to if you happen to get dragged. Marsden adds so male kick to the movie and so it's not totally chicked out.
-
"The Bucket List"" on Your ListI was excited to see Nicholson and Freeman star in a movie together. They have witty chemistry.
-
Father's SeedHis father's arms wrapped him tight Whispering farewell with an early kiss goodnight The boy held on not wanting to release The father closed his eyes and felt his heart cease
-
MommyOh mommy I want to bring you joy Whether I'm a pink girl or a blue boy I want to give you more than you've gotten I want to be more than forgotten
-
"The Kite Runner" Foolishness is Wrapped Up in the Heart of a BoyThe Kite Runner might have a character whose heart is tied up in foolishness, but unlike some who get knotted up, he frees himself and stands up, as his father wanted, for what he believes as right and damned be the consequences.
-
"Atonement" is a Postcard of a MovieThe problem was that I believe it was like a postcard. If you like postcards and you giggle at the funny line on the bottom of the card, and then you are able to stare at said card for two hours; then you'll most likely love this movie.
-
"The Great Debaters" Shows the Power of WordsA story that tells of struggle without screaming victim for the characters is a good story indeed. The Great Debaters embodied great story telling.
-
"Juno" Does Know Humor and Heart Can MixI love cynical, sarcastic comedies that are dark in a sense of theme.
-
"Sweeney Todd" Musically, Masterly ExecutedSo I saw this because I like the director and the actors, but it did not go over well with me.
