Nannette Gilbert
Most people would consider me a quiet, introspective and thoughtful person. I grew up in a large family who would probably disagree about me being quiet. My name is Nannette Gilbert. I graduated from high school near Akron, Ohio and moved to Colorado in my early twenties. I currently live near the mountains in Castle Rock, Colorado. I'd like to say that I enjoy hiking, but truthfully I enjoy strolling on the many trails in our area. This summer my husband, son and I hiked to the top of our namesake, Castle Rock, overlooking our city.
When I'm not reading or writing, I like hanging out with my husband, children, and grandchildren. My husband and I have been married for 15 years, mostly good years and overall we have a happy life together. I spend my days watching my two young granddaughters, while my daughter is at work. She serves in the Army National Guard which is how I heard about American Military University. My sons live with us, one is a young adult and the youngest will be starting high school this fall. I would certainly be remiss if I don't mention Zoe; she is my almost two year old Yorkiepoo, a cross between a Toy Poodle and a Yorkshire Terrier. She is a loveable 7 pound bundle of curly black hair that takes up so much of my time; I should list her as a separate hobby.
Additionally, I make an effort to stay healthy and fit with a regular yoga practice. Unlike most exercise, I can do yoga in my bedroom in my pajamas and find that I will actually commit to it.
I recently finally graduated from Metropolitan State College in Denver with a B.A. in Behavioral Science with a history focus. Between raising three children and full-time work, it took me almost 25 years to graduate. Since I found myself missing school, I decided to continue my education. Improving my research and writing skills and a love of history are my motivational goals. Having little desire to work outside my home again, in the future I want to be a freelance writer.
