Based on the North Shore of Oahu, Catharine writes regularly about island life, Hawaiian culture, ocean recreation, and natural resources. She was formerly an editor at *Honolulu Weekly,* *FreeSurf Magazine,* and *Wired.* In 2007, her story about GMO taro was awarded first place for general news and enterprise reporting at the Hawaii Society of Professional Journalists' Excellence in Journalism Awards.
