Mary Clare Houghes
Let me start by sharing some of my personal background information and history. I was the fourth of five children, and was raised in a small town near Buffalo, New York. All of my brothers and sisters have completed college and are doing quite well, including myself. I have been in the healthcare field since 1979, and have been employed as a Respiratory Therapist since that time. I divorced in 2001, finished raising my children, and relocated from Florida to Wisconsin, to be closer to my sisters. I remarried in 2005, and now have four step-children too. Trust me, its nothing like the Brady Bunch, but we all make it work.
In 2006, I had some unfortunate medical issues which left me physically disabled, and unable to perform my duties as a Therapist. I am back in college, and hope to graduate in December 2010 with a degree in Medical Assisting. Even though I will only be able to work part-time, this degree will enable me to work in an office setting, and remain engaged in the healthcare industry.
I have always had the desire to become a free- lance writer, but never had the time. Since I am currently unable to work, and with my 3 children now grown, I felt the need to broaden my horizens. What better time to pursue one of my ambitions and try my hand at writing?
I researched the internet and discovered the Associated Content website. I registered and compiled my first article 3 days ago, and just received word that my article would be published. This is an exciting time for me, and I hope that you will join me on this new adventure.
