Nick Simonson
I am an avid outdoorsman and freelance outdoors journalist, writing on a variety of topics through my weekly column entitled Our Outdoors and through freelance projects for a variety of newspapers, magazines and websites since 2001.
From pheasant hunting on the prairies of North Dakota to ruffed grouse hunting in the woods of northeastern Minnesota's Arrowhead region, to bow hunting whitetails in the creeks and draws of the high plains, my writing each fall focuses on my adventures afield.
In the winter, I'm a hardwater bum, plain and simple. From hole-to-hole and from lake-to-lake there isn't a species I won't fish for under the ice. I share my tips and tactics with readers in hopes that they will experience the same success I do.
When not on the ice, the cold winters of the upper Midwest provide me time to tie flies and jigs in preparation for spring fishing and assemble some impressively-sized lures for muskie fishing in the summer. I share my lure-making tips and how-tos each winter to help improve others' angling.
When the weather warms, if I'm not on a boat chasing after bass, walleyes and crappies, I'm usually knee-deep in a trout stream fishing for browns, rainbows and brookies. At the end of the day, I usually have more than a few stories and lessons learned that I share with my readers.
Whatever it is that interests your readership in the outdoors, I probably write about it. Share my weekly writings with your readers, or offer up a special assignment - if it happens outdoors, I'll write about it, and you won't be disappointed!
