Prior to a change into flower growing Max was an officer in the Army and later ran an internet development company.
He is the vice-president and past treasurer of Flowers Victoria (the peak body for Victorian flower growers), is a member of the board of directors of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Victorian flower industry representative on the Australian National Flowers Working Group, as well as being actively involved in his children's Kindergarten parents committee.
