Born in Seattle and raised on an island in Puget Sound, Maria is the author of the third edition of the book, 'Newcomer's Handbook for Moving to and Living in Seattle.' A history major in college and a former accountant, she now works as a freelance writer and has published in magazines, newspapers and websites for over ten years on topics as varied as parenting, the environment, history, education and business.
