Tommy Acosta
Having grown up in the Bronx in New York City, I was no stranger to the sounds of police sirens, fire engines, people laughing, singing, dancing and even fighting in the streets. My early life was exciting, colorful and full of family and pleasant times.
I attended Holy Family School, where I learned I could write my way through most tests without having to study as hard as I should due to my way with words and voracious reading appetite.
While attending Hunter College in New York City, I became the editor of the "Hunter College Renaissance," modeled after the "The Daily News" or "New York Post."
After college, I served as editor of the "Bronx Times Reporter" (BTR) for approximately five years.
The BTR also played a major role in capturing a serial-child killer named Alejandro Henriquez, who was convicted of murdering 10-year old Jessica Guzman and two other young women in 1990.
Moving to Arizona in the 90's, I assumed the editorship of the "Chandler Independent" and the "Sun Lakes Independent" community newspapers.
Seeking a cooler climate, I moved north to Sedona, Arizona where I assumed the editorship of "The Sedona Times," a monthly news/features/editorial newspaper.
The paper and its Web site offer opportunities for all kinds of journalistic expression, from hard news and politics to the spiritual, artistic and poetic.
We offer alternative points of view and enjoy a great reader/writer following with many contributors adding opinions to our publication.
The paper continues to champion a community effort to maintain dark skies and prevent the Arizona Department of Transportation from installing a string of light poles residents believe will ruin its starry skies Sedona is known for.
Recognizing the incredible potential of associatedcontent.com, it is my hope to add to the cornucopia of news and information this new media outlet has to offer.
