Sandra Renee Hicks
Sandra Renee Hicks, a native of Washington DC, is a true worshipper of Almighty God. She has also lived in Tampa, FL, Baltimore, MD, Germantown, MD, and Upper Marlboro, MD. She is the offspring of Robert and Helen, both of whom were writers. Sandra has been a published writer for more than 15 years - most of her published pieces are "Letters to the Editor," essays, and poetry. In 2008, Sandra began to write short stories. She entered a contest in 2008 on the website www.faithwriters.com. Sandra did not win; however, one of her entries received a mention on the site as "Highly Commended."
Sandra has been published in newspapers such as The Baltimore Sun, The Afro-American, The Los Angeles Sentinel and The Washington Informer. Magazines that have published her work are Charisma, GQ, Ebony, Black Enterprise, Washingtonian, Baltimore, and Emerge. Her work is also found on Internet sites www.helium.com, www.faithwriters.com, www.Divinecaroline.com, www.peoplegetready.org, and the award-winning website www.bcnn1.com.
Sandra has worked in the federal government sector as a Purchasing Agent for the U.S. Department of Treasury - for private entities such as America's Promise, a non-profit founded by Colin Powell, as well as for the D.C. government as a Customer Service Specialist. The former D.C. mayor, Anthony Williams, presented Sandra with a "Customer Service Excellence Award" for her strong work ethic, and customer service skills.
Sandra desires to learn more from the diverse written skills exhibited by others in the literary community. She looks forward to be further enriched by the unique contributions of those who share a love for the artful display of written words. Also, the aim is for Sandra to hone her writing talent to impact in venues where others can be inspired, challenged, and transformed.
