Juana Summers
Juana Summers is a reporter covering city and state politics and urban life in Missouri.
Originally from Kansas City, Mo., she graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism in 2009 with a degree in Media Convergence and a minor in History. She began her postgraduate career in journalism in 2010 as a legislative intern for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. She later covered city politics and education in Kansas City for KCFreePress.com
Prior to graduation, she worked for the Austin American-Statesman, The Washington Post, the Kansas City Star and KBIA-FM, among other local and regional news outlets.
During the course of her career in journalism, she won several awards, including an Online Journalism Association award, as part of the producing team that created The Washington Post's "Sacred Ground" project, commemorating 9/11 victims. She also received a Hearst Journalism Award for news reporting while at KBIA-FM.
She was honored by the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association in 2007 and 2008 for news and investigative reporting, and was a featured panelist at the Associated Collegiate Press/College Media Advisers convention in 2008.
