The proliferation of Social Media has changed how effective Crisis Communication is done. Essentially, the convergence of media technology has fundamentally altered the way individuals receive news and gather information and has created an information environment that has (a) a near instantaneous media cycle; (b) perfect information; and (c) stakeholders that rely on multiple media platforms. I have done extensive research on Crisis Communications in the Era of Social Media and I have found that all effective plans comprise 5 essential elements '" open, timely, 100% truthful, broadly communicated and internet presence. My research has been published in leading HR magazines like Human Resource Capital.
My professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of San Francisco, a Professional Certificate in Public Relations and Mass Communications from the Institute of Public Relations Singapore, and being the Distinguished Honors Graduate, Psychological Operations Officers Course conducted by the United States Army. As the in-house subject matter expert for the Army in the Singapore Armed Forces, I have consulted with numerous senior commanders on the handling of crisis, assisted in the planning and implementation of crisis communications plans for their units, as well as led Information Teams in support of our National objectives. Operating in environments that are volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, I have extensive real-world experience in successfully developing and executing crisis communications plans while under intense media scrutiny.
Prior to joining the Singapore Armed Forces, I was the Managing Director of J&M Design and Photography Pte Ltd. As a business owner, I am acutely cognizant of the profit motives behind for-profit organisations and this unique insight enables me to develop crisis communications plans that meet the needs of businesses.
