Antonio Figueroa

ANTONIO V. FIGUEROA, a trustee of the Railway and Industrial Heritage Society of the Philippines, Inc. (RISHPI), writes a column in Davao City, and edits two weekly newspapers in Manila. He wrote for the wires (Agence France Presse, Reuters and Philippine News Agency), edited local daily newspapers in Davao City (People's Daily Forum, Mindanao Fiscalizer, and Mindanao Gazette), was college instructor, and later vice-president. In 2007, he was declared national winner for 'ËÅ"Outstanding Column on Children for Community Newspapers' in the 6th PPI-UNICEF Child-Friendly Awards. He has published several books, namely The Polygon: East Asean Growth Area (1994), The Final Verdict: The First Mass Controversy on Philippine Soil (1999), Confluence of Two Rivers: The History of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province (2003), The Daneco Story: A Coop That Powers, A Team That Lights (2004), Pinoy Socio-Cultural Dictionary (2007), and Davao: Origin of Place-Names (2010, Dorrance Publishing, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA). In 2008, he completed Marikina: History of a River, the official history of Marikina City, and on last June 2010, he finished the commissioned book, There is Only One House: The Nograles Legislature (2008-2010). Two of his books, Politics of Rusty Tracks and Davao: Origin of Place-names, are under consideration by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
