Michael Tyler
To be yourself online is not easy - there are just that many opportunities and temptations to pretend to be someone better, prettier and more successful. Yet when it comes to my writings, I'm all about being exactly who I am with flaws and all. Honesty is key.
Being only 24 years old, I feel as if I've experienced the life of the average 50 year old. Ever since I moved back to Norway from the U.S. at the age of 12, finding my place has proven difficult. Norway may be called one of the best countries on earth, yet Norwegians have a tendency to be jealous of those who perform better in life. Success is not applauded like it is in America - no - it's frowned upon, always followed up with "why should you be better off than me?" Socialism still reigns, decades after the Marshall Help reconstructed this country after the Second World War.
Having lived in Pittsburgh, London, Oslo and Dubai, carefully analyzing different ways of life, politics and regulations, I feel somewhat qualified to address topics concerning international relations. Having been lonely for large parts of my life too, concealing my true self by putting on brave faces, I feel qualified to discuss anxiety and depressions as well.
Recently my mask came off, yet to quote a line from the movie "V for Vendetta," I've worn my mask for so long that I've somewhat forgotten who I was beneath it. Publishing my writings online, collections of stuff I've thought about for the past seven years, is daunting indeed. It has been my private sphere, for my eyes only. Yet if it can be helpful and somewhat inspiring to just a single person, it'll be worth posting it.
