Sean OBrien's professional career began in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system when he was a member of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons front office staff in the 1990s. He was a freelance sports writer in the newspaper industry for five years and won the Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year Award when he began another part of his career in elementary education. He won the Yahoo Rising Star Award shortly after he joined the Contributor Network in 2011. He earned a BA in Communications from Penn State University and an Elementary Education certification from Alvernia University. He has been an avid hockey and baseball fan since the 1970s
