Jan Tomas
Born in Texas, I have lived in nine different states and traveled through Europe, Canada, and Mexico. I was a Montessori teacher and school administrator for eleven years, a journalist for eight, and taught photography, ESL, English and journalism in Texas high schools for 16 years. I received the Harte-Hanks award for spot news, the Anson Jones award for feature writing, and watched my journalism students regularly win state and regional meets. I also was a copy editor for a small city daily in Texas, and an associate editor for a now defunct antiques publication. Recently, I won a writing award sponsored by the Ct. Review for creative non-fiction. I continue to improve writing skills by enrolling in writing courses in nearby colleges. I am proficient in Photoshop and Pagemaker. Until recently I was a member of a woman's barbershop chorus. We qualified and traveled to Las Vegas and Hawaii for international competions
